Weekend event planned to raise money for Red Cross

A group is calling all area motorcycle enthusiasts to an event on Sunday to help raise money for Douglas County’s American Red Cross chapter.

The Blue Knights Kansas III chapter will sponsor its second annual poker run across northeastern Kansas with a goal to raise $1,000 to benefit the Heroes campaign for the Red Cross chapter, said Dan Ward, a Lawrence police captain and the board chairman for the Red Cross chapter.

The event raised $840 last year.

It begins with registration at 11 a.m. at Combs Custom Cycle, 725 N. Second St. in Lawrence. Bikers will roll out at noon.

After stops across the area, the run will conclude at Slow Ride Roadhouse, 1350 N. Third St.

The entry fee is $20 per hand, and cash prizes will be awarded for the best, second-best and worst poker hands. The event includes drawings for free gifts.

In case of rain, the event will be May 31.
