Overland Park vote on chickens advances

? Two brothers have moved one step closer to getting a permit to raise chickens in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park.

The Overland Park Planning Commission voted 7-4 Monday to approve a test permit after hearing mixed testimony from neighbors. The final decision will be made by the City Council in June.

David Crupper says he wants the chickens for fresh eggs. Four chickens already are living in a homemade coop in his backyard.

The permit would last only one year.
