Area agencies eligible for funding for emergency food, shelter programs

Douglas County has been chosen to receive about $27,000 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

These funds have been made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Local agencies chosen to receive funds must:

• Be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government.

• Be eligible to receive federal funds.

• Have an accounting system.

• Practice nondiscrimination.

• Have demonstrated ability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs.

Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for these funds must contact Jane Blocher, local board chair of the American Red Cross, at 843-3550 to receive an application. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. May 14.
