Girard ? A measure that would help authorities track and locate methamphetamine makers is expected to come up for a vote in a Kansas Senate committee this week.

The bill would create a statewide electronic logging system to monitor the sale of meth ingredients such as ephedrine and pseudoephedrine. It does not carry a “stop sale” requirement because of concerns about the safety of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

Public Health and Welfare Committee Chairman Jim Barnett of Emporia says he expects the panel to advance the measure. Where the funding for the logging system would come from remains unclear.

Last year Missouri enacted a law to link pharmacies statewide so police could identify people who buy large quantities of meth precursors. That measure has not been implemented because of a lack of funding.
