Officer’s family to dedicate memorial

A memorial to a sheriff’s lieutenant killed in a bicycle accident will be dedicated at the Douglas County Jail on the one-year anniversary of his death.

Family members of David Dillon and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department will celebrate Dillon’s life and dedicate a memorial bench at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Dillon was killed June 28, 2008, when a car struck his bicycle on County Road 442 west of Eudora.

He had been a 26-year employee of the sheriff’s department and was assigned to the jail for the last 10 years of his service.
