Boys and Girls Club plans community party

The Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence will have a community Juneteenth celebration on Friday at Broken Arrow Park, 31st and Louisiana streets.

The celebration, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., will include oral histories about Juneteenth and slavery, food for sale, games and activities, and a street dance.

This is the second year the Boys and Girls Club will celebrate Juneteenth at the park. Former members are invited to attend and share stories about how their experience in the club has had an impact on their life.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States.
