Salt museum in Hutchinson breaks record for weekend attendance

? The cool confines of the Kansas Underground Salt Museum in Hutchinson attracted a record number of visitors to the attraction during the weekend.

Linda Schmitt, executive director of the Reno County Historical Society, said 647 people toured the museum on Saturday, breaking a previous record of 620 visitors. Another 234 people went through the museum on Sunday.

Schmitt says heat in the Hutchinson area likely drove some people into the museum, which stays at a cool 68 degrees. But she says an enhanced advertising campaign and many out-of-town visitors also likely helped the attendance.
