From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan. 17, 1909: “Steps will be taken next week to secure better fire protection for South Lawrence, the university hill and the university itself. … A number of people have been hurt from sledding during the snow and a university student yesterday suffered a broken ankle on university hill.”
