Identigen co-founder to discuss DNA, meat

Ronan Loftus, co-founder and director of global development for Identigen Ltd., will discuss the company’s DNA TraceBack system during a Tiffin Conference Series event, “Lessons Learned in the Red Meat Industry,” set for Jan. 22 at Lethbridge College in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.

Identigen, a provider of DNA-based products used to track agriculture and food products, is the parent company of Lawrence-based Identigen North America.

The conference is for primary producers, agribusiness officials and post-secondary agriculture students.

In October, Identigen announced that it was collaborating with Alberta’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Prairie Heritage Beef Producers and Quality Foods, a British Columbia-based grocery retail chain, on a pilot program to test the DNA TraceBack system, which tracks beef from the ranch to the retail store.
