Students investigate a whodunit at Central

Four murders. Four groups of crime scene investigators. Ninth graders at Central Junior High are on the case.

“She (the victim) was on the exercise machine there and she had a dumbbell across her throat,” said Arre Reed-Weston. “She did have a mark there and so we assume she suffocated because of that.”

The “dead” students were classmates.

“I wish I was the person that was dead,” said Olivia Marshall. “That seems like the coolest part.”

“The first step is hunting for clues, which include “fingerprints, hairs, handwriting, anything that would be suspicisous,” said Reed-Weston.

“We found a Coke can that had some fingerprints on it,” said James Dooley. “We found some barbells, a notebook.”

They also have to get a handle on their suspects.

“Just get all their information and see if they stutter over anything to see if you can get them,” said Marshall. “Some of their stories changed a little bit.”

All of the pieces of the puzzle are there. They just have to make a connection.

“We have an idea,” said Dooley, of who might be their suspect. “But we’re not sure.”

They enjoy being partners in crime solving.

“It was cool,” said Reed-Weston. “Doing this was a lot more fun than doing worksheets or anything.”

Dooley agreed. “It was fun just being a crime scene investigator,” he said.
