Assistance needed for Walk MS

Walk MS Lawrence will be April 4 at Sunflower School, 2521 Inverness Drive. Volunteer opportunities include registration and participant check-in, start and finish line festivities, flair team, rest stop workers and VIP hosts, as well as prize distribution. Groups are encouraged to participate; volunteers must be at least 18 or accompanied by a parent/ guardian. Volunteers should arrive by 8 a.m. and the event will last until 1 p.m.

Immediate needs

Douglas County Emergency Management is conducting Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, classes in Baldwin City from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays at the Baldwin City Public Library, 800 Seventh St. The eight-week course began Feb. 4. For more information, contact Anna at vista@ rhvc.org.

Individuals who take the course will be better prepared to respond to and cope with the aftermath of a disaster, by increasing their ability to safely help themselves, their families and their neighbors.

First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold, 843-0020, needs cereal, boxed pasta, nonperishable foods, toilet paper.

Lawrence Community Shelter, 214 W. 10th St., needs cereal, sugar, coffee, blankets, socks.

Leo Center, 1 Riverfront Plaza Suite 100, needs spaghetti and sauce, tuna, juice, peanut butter, jelly, toilet paper, cereal.

Penn House, 1035 Pa., 842-0440, needs peanut butter and jelly, dried goods, tuna, cereal, pasta.

Salvation Army, 946 N.H., needs canned meat (tuna, chicken), cereal, baby food, formula, diapers, toilet paper.

Southside Church of Christ, 1105 W. 25th St., 843-0770, needs canned meat, peanut butter, laundry detergent.

Trinity Interfaith Food Pantry, 1027 Vt., needs laundry detergent, pancake mix, spaghetti sauce, diapers, powdered milk.
