Legislature for seniors seeking candidates

The Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging Inc. and the Kansas Department on Aging announced that the deadline for filing to become a candidate for the Kansas Silver Haired Legislature is Wednesday.

The Silver Haired Legislature informs the public and the Kansas Legislature on concerns of the elderly.

Elections in Shawnee, Douglas and Jefferson counties will be March 10. One person is elected to represent Douglas County, and one person for Jefferson County. There will be six people elected for Shawnee County.

Silver Haired legislators advocate for legislation, meet with seniors in their county on legislation affecting the elderly and attend Silver Haired Legislature meetings.

Candidate registration forms and instructions are available from Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging, 2518 Ridge Court, Suite 215, in Lawrence. Any Kansan ages 60 and older who is a registered voter may file for candidacy.
