State issues boil water advisory for Jefferson County Water District No. 10

State health officials Friday issued a boil water advisory for Jefferson County Rural Water District 10, which is on the northeast side of Lake Perry.

A water main break has caused the water tower to drain resulting in a loss of pressure that could allow contaminants to enter the system, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported.

Repairs were being made Friday but the boil water advisory remains in effect until KDHE has determined that the risk of contaminants has been resolved.

KDHE advises residents served by the water district to:

— Boil water vigorously one minute before use.

— Use only water that has been boiled for drinking, brushing teeth, diluting fruit juices and other food preparation.

— Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from an automatic icemaker.

Customers may direct questions to the water district by calling 608-3516.
