From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 31, 1909: “C.E. Sutton’s sale of Berkshire hogs drew a huge crowd this afternoon but the 75 buyers were not paying prices as high as had been hoped. . . . The work of paving on Connecticut Street is being rushed along to take advantage of the labor available. The street car line is taking away many workers and paving must be done whenever there are sufficient workers.”
