Wet pavement delays work on Kansas Turnpike ramp

Relocating the entrance to an exit ramp on the Kansas Turnpike’s East Lawrence interchange will just have to wait.

Mother Nature has other ideas.

Officials cited wet pavement today in their decision to postpone indefinitely this afternoon’s scheduled adjustments to the exit ramp for westbound traffic at Exit 204, at the edge of North Lawrence.

Crews still intend to move the ramp’s entrance about 1,500 feet to the east, to accommodate installation of a concrete barrier that eventually will separate traffic heading in both directions on the turnpike.

The work is part of an ongoing $130 million project to replace turnpike bridges over the Kansas River, upgrade two interchanges and complete related work.
