Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Douglas, surrounding counties

11:14 p.m.Heavy rain and potentially damaging winds are moving through the area as the line of storms passes. 50 mile per hour winds have been reported at the Douglas County Municipal Airport. There are currently no severe weather warnings in the area.

7:20 p.m. The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for most of northeast Kansas, including Lawrence and Douglas County, until 3 a.m.

The watch covers Jefferson, Douglas, Franklin and Shawnee counties, among other. According to the National Weather Service, the primary threat is from large hail and damaging winds, however a threat of tornadoes does exist.
