Headquarters Counseling Center is looking for volunteers. Informational meetings are scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Casbah, 803 Mass., or 6 p.m. Aug. 26 in the Gallery Room of the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

Immediate needs

• Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care is seeking companion volunteers to help serve terminally ill patients in their homes or facilities. Volunteers must be available for regular weekly assignments of two to three hours, and commit to a year of service. No prior medical knowledge is needed and volunteer training is provided.

The agency is also seeking trained massage therapists interested in volunteering massage to hospice clients. Therapists are preferred who could be available for regular once-weekly assignments if requested or needed by patient. Proof of professional training/instruction in massage therapy is required.

• The Recovery and Hope Network needs volunteers to help run a funnel cake booth at the Renaissance Festival in Bonner Springs, between Sept. 5 and Oct. 18. Half-day shifts from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. are available. Costumes will be provided and required for those who work the counter. In exchange for service, volunteers will receive two tickets to the festival for use at their convenience.
