A previously discussed plan to allow out-of-state legacy students to receive a discounted tuition rate at Kansas University is going before the Kansas Board of Regents next week.

The “Jayhawk Generations” plan would give partial tuition waivers to out-of-state students who meet academic requirements and have a parent or grandparent who graduated from KU.

Students with a 3.25 or higher GPA in high school and an ACT score of 26 to 29 (or SAT equivalent) would receive a 12 percent discount on the out-of-state rate, and a score of 30 or above would allow for a 20 percent discount.

The tuition breaks would not reduce tuition below the actual cost of providing their education, so they would continue to help fund in-state students, according to a release from the school.

The Board of Regents is scheduled to consider approving the proposal during its meeting next week.
