A $5,500 damage claim was filed with the Douglas County Commission by a Lecompton couple who said construction of roads to the new Kansas River bridge there had caused them inconvenience. County Attorney Dan Young said such action would have to go through state channels.

Work had officially begun after a long series of delays on the city’s first municipal swimming pool. The complex was due to be in use by the spring of 1969. Lawrence was the last of two major cities in the state to have an official municipal pool. The new facility had been brought about only a long series of efforts to overcome roadblocks, primarily financing.
