Assistance sought for holiday dinner

LINK will be serving a Thanksgiving meal at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky., and needs volunteers to prepare, deliver and serve meals in two-hour shifts between 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thanksgiving is on Nov. 27. Call Deb at 393-5761 for more information.

Immediate needs

¢ The Mother to Mother of Douglas County program is in need of volunteers for its Christmas party from 2 p.m.. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14. Volunteers are sought who can provide 10 to 15 minutes of entertainment for the children at the party, such as singing, dancing, playing instruments, reading a story, etc. Individuals or groups are welcome. ¢ Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care is seeking volunteers to help serve terminally ill patients. Responsibilities will include being a companion, assisting with errands, and sharing, listening or simply ‘being there’ for a patient. Volunteers will be trained in massage therapy, art/music therapy and guided meditation/imagery.

Other volunteers are needed to provide yard care, including shoveling driveways or raking leaves. Volunteers also are needed who can give free in-home haircuts to terminally ill patients.

No medical knowledge is needed and training is offered. Volunteers must be able to commit for a full year. Call Sarah Rooney, 331-4812, or e-mail sarahro @vna-ks.org to volunteer.

¢ Centro Hispano Resource Center will conduct its Holiday Tamale Sale – four tamales for $10 or 10 tamales for $20. The freshly made tamales will be delivered the weekend of Dec. 5, and benefit a scholarship awarded to a local Latino/Latina high school graduate for further education.
