With votes still out, incumbent state Sen. Hensley appears to be leading

Incumbent state Sen. Anthony Hensley appeared to be winning re-election in the 19th District Tuesday.

Final results were incomplete early Wednesday morning, but Hensley barely got by his Republican opponent, Shari Weber, in Douglas County. There were only two precincts in southern Douglas County that are in the 19th District. Hensley received 606 votes to Weber’s 505.

Hensley was well ahead of Weber in Shawnee County but actually trailed her in Osage County. In 29 of the district’s total of 69 precincts, however, Hensley had 66 percent of the vote but totals were not yet available.

Hensley, of Topeka, is the Senate minority leader and had been a senator since 1992. Weber, from Herington, once served in the House and was majority leader.
