KU ‘Pillars Week’ to start Monday

Kansas University Greek Life has announced Monday as the kickoff to “Pillars Week” for the KU campus and Lawrence community.

The four-day event will sponsor activities that reflect the Greek community’s four founding pillars: service, leadership, scholarship and brotherhood/sisterhood.

KU Greek Life consists of four councils: the Panhellenic Association, Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations. Each council will be host to a day’s event.

On Monday the Service Pillar will be hosted by the Panhellenic Association.

The event is Rock the Block, a battle-of-the-bands style fundraiser for the Lawrence Food Bank and Habit for Humanity’s “House that Greeks Built.” Local bands will perform 7 p.m. at Abe & Jake’s Landing, 8 E. Sixth St.

A donation of two canned food items per person are requested at the door.

On Tuesday, the Leadership Pillar will be hosted by the National Pan-Hellenic Council. They will have voting booths placed throughout campus for local residents, open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be an election results watch-party at the Kansas Union in Woodruff Auditorium.

On Wednesday, the Scholarship Pillar will be hosted by the Interfraternity Council. From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Kaplan test preps will be available for any KU student at the Kansas Union in Alcove I, Alcove L, Curry Room and International Room.

On Thursday, the Brotherhood/Sisterhood Pillar will be hosted by National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations.

There will be a game night including board games, card games, Pictionary, Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero. The event is from

7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hawks Nest on the first floor of the Kansas Union.
