4-H and FCE news

India FCE will meet at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Deal Six Auditorium at the extension office at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

The program “Destination Vermont” will be presented by Elaine Wilson, North East Area Educational Program Chairwoman.

¢Lone Star 4-H Club met April 14 at Lone Star Church of the Brethren. Christine Caffey, president, called the meeting to order. Rowan Plinsky, Bethany Ledom and Megan Williams led the group in a song. For roll call, members responded to the question, “Who is your favorite singer or group?”

Mary Berg, community leader, reported the club worked a concession stand during the annual Swap Meet on May 2-4. She also reported Regional Club Days were March 15 at Lawrence High School. Rowan Plinsky received an alternate top purple ribbon in oral interpretation.

The club participated in 4-H Sunday on April 6 at Lone Star Church of the Brethren. A donation to the Lone Star Church of the Brethren was voted on and passed. A reminder was given about 4-H Camp June 14-17 at Rock Springs 4-H Center.

Discovery Days will be Tuesday through Friday at Kansas State University. Camp counselors are still needed. Grant Metsker made a motion to make a donation to the Kansas 4-H Foundation. The motion was seconded by Jordan Caffey and then voted on by the club. The motion was approved. The club’s shift for the concession stand at this year’s Douglas County Fair will be from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Aug. 1.

Megan Williams gave a current event during the program section of the meeting. Bethany Ledom presented a project talk on creating a gift basket.

At the conclusion of the business meeting, the club pledge and motto were recited and the meeting was adjourned.

¢Clinton Eagles 4-H Club met May 19 at Wakarusa Valley School. Kahlyn Heine, president, called the meeting to order. Roll call was answered by “What is your favorite 4-H project?” Kirstyn Heine, vice president, read the minutes from April’s meeting.

Dustin Hoyt, treasurer, reported the club finances. Morgan Manger, reporter, announced the monthly report had been printed in the Journal-World. There were no county council, parliamentarian, historian or recreation announcements.

Lanaea Heine, community leader, talked about Bromelsick and Dreher Memorial Service, camp kick-off, fair books and sign-up sheets, 4-H tabloid, and the June meeting.

Rod Heine, swine leader, talked about the swine weigh-in and county swine show. He also talked about the auction animal purchase that will happen at fair time.

Kim Hubbell, clothing leader, talked about a future clothing workshop. Kristi Wempe, sheep leader, talked about the sheep weigh-in and show. One new member joined. Piper Hubbell gave a presentation on his rabbits. The next meeting will be June 23.
