LHS state semi moved to 2 p.m.

State championship game now will be played Monday

? Saturday’s Lawrence High state semifinal baseball game against Blue Valley has been pushed back to 2 p.m. but still will be played at Hummer Sports Complex in Topeka.

LHS coach Brad Stoll said lightning hit the complex during Friday night’s storm and fried some of the electrical system, causing the game to be postponed from its original start time of 10 a.m. Officials had talked about moving Saturday’s games to a new venue but decided to play out the remainder of the tournament in the same place it began.

The other semifinal between Goddard and Shawnee Mission West will be played at approximately 4:30 p.m. Saturday, after the conclusion of the LHS-Blue Valley game. The winners will meet at 2 p.m. Monday for the state title. There will not be a third-place game.

LHS advanced to the semis with a thrilling 4-3 victory over top-seeded Free State on Friday. The Lions (12-10) will send junior, righty Dorian Green to the mound to start Saturday’s semifinal.
