Iowa guard transfers to SIU

? Tony Freeman, Iowa’s leading scorer from last season, is transferring to Southern Illinois.

Freeman, a guard, averaged 13.8 points last season and was a third-team all-Big Ten Conference selection by the coaches. He said earlier this month Iowa coach Todd Lickliter did not value his ability.

“They said they needed a guy like me, even if it was for just a year, to come in and help lead and mentor younger players,” Freeman said of SIU. “Basically, everything those guys wanted me to be, Iowa didn’t.”
