Lawrence Memorial Park customers recently received notice from the state that refunds are available for people who did not receive merchandise.
The Kansas Attorney General's office sent notices last week along with forms that must be completed and returned to the Kansas Secretary of State's office before July 3 to preserve their claim. Anyone who did not receive a notice, but thinks they should have, can call (785) 296-1848 and request a copy.
The merchandise in question includes monuments, markers or other items or services associated with burial.
The attorney general entered into a settlement with Mike Graham and Associates, former owners of the cemetery. The agreement issued by Douglas County District Court made the city of Lawrence the owner of the cemetery. A merchandise trust fund was transferred to the attorney general to be used to satisfy outstanding burial contracts.
Refund checks will be mailed by Sept. 26, 2009.
