Farmers Turnpike topic of meeting
May 15, 2008

People interested in how land along the Farmers Turnpike will develop will have an opportunity to speak out this week.
City leaders will host a public meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, to review the proposed K-10 and Farmers Turnpike Land Use Plan.
The plan calls for a major new industrial area near the Lecompton interchange on the Kansas Turnpike. The plan also calls for “auto-related commercial” development near the intersection, although the plan specifically says the commercial development should not be a major truck stop. The plan also proposes high-density apartment development near Kasold Drive and the Farmers Turnpike. That intersection also would house a new community commercial retail center.
City leaders are seeking comment on the plan, which is available for review at www.lawrenceplanning.org. Ultimately, the plan must be approved by the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission and the City Commission.

What's the point? The decision to approve was made the minute this development was proposed.

Steve & Duane Schwada own over 1000 acres between Kasold and K-10 along the Farmers turnpike. What a coincidence!

There were over 100 upset landowners at the meeting. The planners kept saying they wanted public input, but then said the plan as drawn is what is to be submitted to the planning commission. This is a terrible plan. Hopefully the planners saw the anger in the eyes of the community and will respond with a better plan.

In other news, a focus group is being set up for people who keep wanting to do business with the City. It'll be called, A Bully Community - business people who keep participating in or exhibiting a codependent relationship with our abusive City.

hawk,
Car dealerships will only be allowed in west Lawrence if 50% of their inventory is alternative fueled vehicles as ordered by the enlightened ones.
