Kansas University was featured prominently in Wednesday morning’s CBS “Early Show.”

The CBS hosts visited with KU architecture professor Dan Rockhill, who is leading a group of graduate students as they design and build the new 5.4.7. Arts Center for the community. The students have been living and working in southwest Kansas since mid-March.

Rockhill showed a national TV audience solar panels and wind turbines, as well as other built-in features, that will help make the building one of the greenest in the country. It is the first public building to be rebuilt in Greensburg.

In addition to showing the arts center, CBS also brought in KU men’s basketball players Sasha Kaun, Darnell Jackson and Jeremy Case, as well as assistant coach Danny Manning.

CBS was paying tribute to the Greensburg High basketball team, which made an impressive run in the state basketball tournament without playing a single home game.

“Any time you can put together a season that’s one of the best in your program’s history, it’s special,” Manning said.

As the Rock Chalk Chant echoed through the school’s new gym, the CBS show handed out KU paraphernalia.

CBS made a point of saying that it purchased and donated the items because if the KU players had done so, it would have been an NCAA violation.
