Keystone, Colo. ? A 43-year-old Kansas man is dead after striking a tree while skiing on an intermediate trail at Keystone Ski Resort.

Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson says Michael Howe of Andover was trying to stop when he struck the tree with his head and chest around 11:15 a.m. Sunday.

Howe was taken to Keystone Medical Center and pronounced dead at 1:19 p.m. Richardson says he died of blunt force trauma to the chest.

Howe was in Colorado for the weekend skiing with a friend.
