Family duo to perform horn recital

In celebration of Murphy Hall’s 50th anniversary, Paul Stevens, Kansas University assistant professor of horn, will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. April 13 in Swarthout Recital Hall, Murphy Hall. Stevens will perform with his mother, pianist Delores Stevens, KU alumna and renowned concert artist.

Delores Stevens has made over 50 recordings, was a six-time trustee of the Grammy Awards, has traveled the world as a member of Columbia Artists, and is artistic director of two chamber music series, in Los Angeles and on Martha’s Vineyard Island in Massachusetts. Paul Stevens has served on the KU faculty for nine years. He is principal horn of the Mozart Classical Orchestra in Los Angeles, performs in the Kansas Brass Quintet and Kansas Woodwinds, and is a featured artist at the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival.

The program will feature solos by both players, including works of Gliere, Danzi, Lars Erik-Larsen, a premiere of “5 Miniatures for Horn and Piano,” by Elizabeth Vercoe, and the solo piano work “Night Shift,” written by composer Gernot Wolfgang for Delores Stevens.

In the finale, the two are joined by KU faculty members Ellen Bottorff on piano and Edward Laut on cello. Cellist and KU student Hyerim Jeon will also perform in the finale.
