A fundraiser will be April 11 at the Bass Pro Shop in Olathe for the Kansas Riverkeeper.

The event is sponsored by Friends of the Kaw Board of Directors to raise an endowment to fund the riverkeeper position in perpetuity.

A goal has been set to raise $500,000 this year. So far $350,000 has been raised.

The riverkeeper is a nongovernmental advocate for the Kansas River.

The current riverkeeper is Laura Calwell.

The speaker at the fundraiser will be Steve Fleischli, president of Waterkeeper Alliance and former Santa Monica Baykeeper.

Fleischli will talk about the future of global and local waters.

The fundraiser will be on the north end patio of Bass Pro’s Islamorada’s Fish Co. Appetizers and beverages will be available. Bass Pro is at 12051 S. Renner Road.
