Kansas University’s music and dance department will present a recital featuring the low brass works of Rodger Vaughan, a KU alumnus and renowned composer, originally from Pretty Prairie. This recital will be presented by members of the KU faculty, KU music students and members of the Fountain City Brass Band of Kansas City, and is a part of the Murphy Hall 50th anniversary celebration.

Rodger Vaughan, who graduated in 1953, has had a successful career composing for low brass instruments. Vaughan is a long-time resident of Los Angeles, where he was professor of music theory and composition at the California State University-Fullerton for more than years. His works are regularly performed by brass players all across the world.

This recital will include Vaughan’s “Concert Pieces For Tuba No. 1 and No. 2” as well as his “Songs for Soprano and Tuba” and “Manchester Parade.” A set of tuba quartets made famous by the Tubadours will be performed at the concert.
