After next year’s (1984) state legislative session, the state should consider turning the Kansas University Medical Center over to a private operator or perhaps selling it outright, said State Sen. Paul Hess, R-Wichita. He said he felt the sale proposal should get a long, hard look, “revolutionary as it might sound.” The Hess suggestion drew immediate fire from KU officials as impractical, ridiculous and “the rantings of a semi-madman.”
