PetFit tour to stop Wednesday in Topeka

Is your pooch looking pudgy?

He’s not alone. There are about 54 million overweight cats and dogs in the United States.

To educate owners on how to get their pets back in shape, the American Veterinary Medical Association and Hill’s Pet Nutrition Inc. have teamed up for the PetFit Tour.

It’s a mobile interactive museum that is visiting cities across the country. Today, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., it will be at the Farmers’ Market near the Capitol grounds, 10th Street and Topeka Boulevard, in Topeka.

It’s a hands-on experience for pet owners. Among the opportunities: Owners can have their pets weighed and then receive advice on what might work best for them. There also are weight packs to illustrate how the extra weight feels for the pets.
