Former Sen. Bob Dole wants to know what Kansans think about the health care system.

And he’s coming to Lawrence to hear what they have to say.

Dole, as part of the Bipartisan Policy Center which he formed with Sens. Tom Daschle, Howard Baker and George Mitchell, will host a forum from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Dole Institute.

Anthony Tellisch, executive assistant for the Leaders in Health Care Project, said his group was still in the process of scheduling speakers for the event.

The health care project was formed in April as an attempt to force Congress to deal with the stagnating discussion.

Bill Lacy, director of the Dole Institute, said he was thrilled that Dole had chosen his namesake as the location of the forum.

“We’ve been trying to arrange this since back in the spring,” he said. “We’re delighted it has come to fruition.”

According to the Bipartisan Policy Center Web site, the center was formed by the senators to try and foster discussion of policies directly affecting Americans without partisan bickering. Issues covered by the center include health care, energy policy, national security, transportation policy and agriculture policy.
