Roads crews have begun to treat roads for possible snow accumulation, but the Kansas Department of Transportation still cautions drivers to travel with caution because of hazardous conditions.

Most of the roadways in northeast Kansas are anywhere from wet and slushy to partly snowpacked on the road surface, according to KDOT. The department stated visibility is limited in many areas, so driving conditions are becoming hazardous.

Accumulation up to 4 inches is expected by midnight with wind gusts up to 35 mph. The National Weather Service issued a snow advisory that is in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday. A hazardous weather advisory was also issued for the evening due to strong winds.

KDOT also encourages drivers to allow extra time when traveling and to have a flashlight, food and water in the vehicle in case of an emergency.
