Friends and family are invited to an 80th birthday celebration for Margie Wiseman. There will be an open house from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 1 at the Lawrence Visitor Center, 402 N. Second St. No gifts are requested.

¢The Lawrence Accredited Music Teachers will present a recital at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at the Lawrence Arts Center, 945 N.H. ¢Free State High School and Southwest Junior High School won the K-12 and K-8 first-place trophies, respectively, on Feb. 16 at the Cordley Elementary Chess Tournament in the Kansas Union at Kansas University.

Quail Run claimed second-place trophies in the K-3 and K-6 sections; and Cordley garnered third-place trophies in K-3 and K-6.
