From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb.11, 1908: “Company H, 20th Kansas Volunteers, the Lawrence company of the famous Kansas regiment that served so nobly in the Philippines during the Philippine campaign, has decided to revive a movement to erect a monument upon its lot in the local cemetery and to push the matter to realization as soon as possible. There will be statue of a Spanish War veteran lad in khaki and service hat and equipped for action. : The damage suit of Jesse A. White for $3,700 against the Santa Fe Railway is for the loss of an eye. A cinder was thrown into his eye by a snowplow for the Santa Fe and cost him his sight. : The Vancil murder case continues to draw full attention here and traces of arsenic have been found in the stomach of the wife who apparently was murdered by her husband.”
