3 suspects charged in abusing shackled teen

? The three suspects in the Tracy, Calif., torture case have all been charged with child abuse, according to the San Joaquin County district attorney, for allegedly using belts, knives and baseball bats on a 16-year-old boy who said he was held captive in their home for 15 months.

The boy — barefoot and naked except for a pair of boxer shorts and a padlocked chain around his leg — surfaced Monday at a Tracy fitness center begging for help. Police said he was emaciated and covered with bruises, blood and burns.

In a 14-page complaint, filed shortly before noon Thursday, Caren Ramirez, Michael Luther Schumacher and his wife, Kelly Layne Lau, were charged with aggravated mayhem, kidnapping, inflicting corporal injury to a child, felony injury to a child, cruel and inhumane punishment, false imprisonment by violence, child abuse and endangerment,

In addition, Lau and Schumacher were charged with child endangerment relating to their own four children, ages 1 to 9, who were placed into protective custody when the couple was arrested Monday.

Lau and Schumacher each face 13 felony counts. Ramirez faces 11.
