Local art therapist attends conference

Libby Schmanke, board certified art therapist, attended the American Art Therapy Association annual conference from Nov. 19 to 23 in Cleveland. Schmanke presented a memorial address for Robert Ault, art therapy pioneer, Topeka, who passed away earlier this year. Schmanke attended training on the intersection of trauma, art therapy, and neuroscience, and on the use of bookmaking techniques in art therapy.

Schmanke is the sole proprietor of Art & Insight, a creative arts studio and private practice in art therapy, 4824 Quail Crest Place. She is on the faculty of the Emporia State University graduate art therapy program, and serves as Certification Committee chairwoman of the national Art Therapy Credentials Board.
