City leaders agree on allowing chickens

Feathers weren’t ruffled at City Hall on Tuesday.

Commissioners unanimously agreed that new regulations should be written that would allow city residents to keep chickens on a small-scale basis in the city.

Earlier in the year there had been some talk of banning chickens in the city limits, after some concerns were expressed about their potential to spread disease.

But several residents who have chickens in the city urged commissioners to allow the birds to be kept as a source of food, and as an educational tool to teach children about the food chain.
