More charges filed in standoff case

The Douglas County district attorney has filed additional charges against a man involved in an eight-hour standoff with police earlier this month.

Joshua Smith, 26, now faces charges of kidnapping, aggravated intimidation of a witness and three counts of aggravated child endangerment. He previously had been charged with domestic battery.

The charges stem from an April 13 incident in the 3000 block of Bainbridge Circle.

Smith is accused of holding officers at bay until he surrendered eight hours later.

During much of the standoff, Smith’s children – ages 3, 5 and 8 – were inside the home, police said.
