New law creates riverfront authority
Topeka ? Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on Monday signed into law a bill that establishes the De Soto-Johnson County Riverfront Authority.
The measure encourages private capital investment by fostering economic development and housing along the Kansas River in De Soto. This bill requires the six-member authority to engage in planning and design for the first three years and prohibits the authority from taking property by eminent domain.
Sebelius also signed into law a bill that increases the amount of permitted exhaust noise from motorboats to 92 decibels.
