School board president named to council

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has named Lawrence school board President Linda Robinson to the P-20 Education Council.

“We know that success in college actually begins before children enter kindergarten. This council will help create a comprehensive system of education with benchmarks for success from pre-school through graduate school,” Sebelius said.

The Kansas State Board of Education and Kansas Board of Regents will each appoint two members.

The council also includes 11 other people: business representatives, Barry Downing, Terry Dunn and Gail Kuehl; David Kerr, Kansas Department of Commerce secretary; Pam Robinson, of Kansas Association of School Boards; Jan Long, of Kansas PTA; Melissa Ness, of Kansas Children’s Cabinet; Doug Penner, of the Kansas Association of Independent Colleges; Cheryl Semmel, of United School Administrators of Kansas; and Blake West, of the Kansas National Education Association.
