Rotary Arboretum in spotlight Saturday

The Lawrence Rotary Clubs and the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting “Experience the Rotary Arboretum Day” on Saturday.

The day’s activities include:

¢ 8 a.m. – Check-in for Arboretum Run, a leisure nontimed run on a trail running through the Rotary Arboretum, 5101 Speicher Road.

¢ 9:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. -Xeriscape Gardening Tour. Emily Nolting, Kansas State University horticulture specialist, will discuss the method of gardening, which involves selecting plants appropriate for their site and that are maintained with little water.

¢ 9:40 a.m. – Youth Bug Hunt and Activity Booths, conducted by Lawrence High School National Honor Society Volunteers. Visit booths on stormwater, water quality, compost, tree pruning and other topics.

¢ 10:00 a.m. – Rotary Bench Dedication. A short ceremony to dedicate the newest edition to the Rotary Arboretum, a bench donated by the Lawrence Rotary Clubs.

¢ 10:15 a.m. – Wildflowers and Grasses of Kansas. Mike Haddock, Kansas State science librarian, will conduct a short talk on the native flowers and grasses of Kansas.

¢ 11:45 a.m. – Tree Give Away, while supplies last.
