Apartment blaze investigated as arson
Fire investigators have classified a Thursday morning fire at an empty apartment as arson.
Division Chief Eve Tolefree of Lawrence Douglas County Fire & Medical said investigators are working a few leads.
No one was injured early Thursday after firefighters made quick work of a reported fire at the apartment at 1745 W. 24th St. The call came at 1:44 a.m.
Tolefree said the department asks anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area to call 843-TIPS.
The fire is estimated to have caused $15,000 in damage, but she did not release any more details.
Tolefree said the apartment was vacant and believed to be under renovation.
