The Band Day parade, a KU-Lawrence tradition that had been uninterrupted for 34 years, was to suffer a one-year moratorium because of the early Kansas-TCU football kickoff time of 12:35 p.m., as dictated by the television broadcast of the game. Band director Bob Foster said every avenue had been explored to conduct the downtown parade but that the telecast made it impossible to manage the parade and stadium appearances of the bands as they should be handled.
