School bus, car collide at Free State High School

A Lawrence school bus collided with a gold Toyota Corolla station wagon this morning, with the bus coming to rest on the car's hood.

A Lawrence School District school bus and a gold Toyota Corolla station wagon were involved in a crash this morning before school at Free State High School.

There were no injuries reported and the bus had just unloaded students. Officials said the driver of the car was a student, who returned to class. No citations were issued.

The accident backed up traffic around the school for several minutes. Officials said a second accident – involving four student-driven vehicles – happened during that time, a chain reaction of three rear-end collisions . Three drivers were cited for inattentive driving; the fourth, driven by a former Free State student, was cited for leaving the scene of an accident.

Police are investigating the crash.
