County to decide on East Hills venture

A series of agreements that will allow a pharmaceutical development company to take over a building in the East Hills Business Park will be considered tonight by Douglas County commissioners.

Deciphera Pharmaceuticals is slated to move into the building, with a consortium consisting of the county, city of Lawrence and the Kansas Bioscience Authority committing finances. The consortium has agreed in the past to finance up to $4 million to enhance life science or bioscience enterprises.

Other items commissioners will consider include:

¢ Setting a public hearing and receiving a petition for vacating and relocating a utility easement at the Midnight Farm property, at North 600 and East 1200 roads or about 2.25 miles southwest of Pleasant Grove.

¢ A request to extend a road to the west of East 350 Road and south of North 1700 Road to create a road frontage for developing land for residential purposes.

¢ A temporary business permit for Donna Wade Wingert, 693 E. 1250 Road, for sale of dried fruits and nuts from Nov. 1 to Dec. 15.

¢ A temporary business permit for the 2008 Old German Baptist Church Conference at 1164 N. 650 Road in Baldwin City and a youth group gathering at 615 E. 1542 Road in Baldwin City. The conference is to take place May 10-13.

Commissioners meet at 6:35 p.m. today in the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass.
