Morris twins set date for KU visit

The Morris twins of Philadelphia will make an official basketball recruiting visit to Kansas University for Late Night in the Phog, Oct. 12 in Allen Fieldhouse.

Marcus Morris, 6-foot-7, 215 pounds, and his brother, Markieff, 6-8, 225, also have scheduled a visit to Villanova for the Wildcats’ Hoops Mania event Oct. 26.

The two told the West Herald News of Paterson, N.J., that they have eliminated LaSalle, Rutgers and West Virginia. They indicated St.John’s was the only other school on their current list.

“They like Kansas. Kansas has shown a lot of love for them. That’s what they want. They want to feel welcome and have the opportunity to play right away,” Greg Wright, coach of the Morris twins’ AAU team, the Hunting Park Warriors, said Tuesday.

The twins signed letters of intent with the University of Memphis as seniors at Philly’s Prep Charter High last November but delayed their college careers by enrolling at Apex Academy in Cherry Hill, N.J.

They apparently soured on Memphis – and were released from their letters of intent -after the Tigers received an oral commitment from 6-10 forward Angel Garcia.

Now they are ready to finalize their college plans.

“They don’t want this to drag on a long time,” Wright said of Marcus, who is a wing player, and Markieff, who is more an inside threat. Marcus is Rivals.com’s No. 37 rated player in the Class of 2008; Markieiff No. 74.

KU has been active recruiting the East this year. Quintrell Thomas, 6-8 from St. Patrick High in Elizabeth, N.J., who visited KU last weekend, has a final list of KU, Maryland, Rutgers and UNLV. Tyshawn Taylor, 6-3 from St. Anthony High in Jersey City, N.J., told Rivals.com KU and Virginia Tech are his co-leaders. He’s also considering Georgia Tech, Virginia and Marquette.

¢ Warren to visit KU: Willie Warren, a 6-3 guard from Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., told Rivals.com he will visit KU on Oct. 19-20. He will attend Oklahoma’s season-opening practice on Oct. 12. Warren also is considering UConn, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Texas, Louisville and Marquette.

¢ Chenowith begins tryout: Former KU center Eric Chenowith hopes to impress at New Orleans Hornets training camp, which opened Tuesday.

“This is a situation where I’m going to fit in, play my role, rebound, run the floor, set screens, and I doubt they would want me to score,” Chenowith told the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
